Amelia Humber Biography

Amelia Humber is a British landscape artist whose atmospheric paintings explore memory, emotion, and our connection to the natural world. Working from her London studio, she creates expressive landscapes inspired by time spent immersed in some of Britain's most dramatic scenery, from the rugged coastlines of Cornwall to the mountains of the Scottish Highlands.

Having grown up in rural Sussex surrounded by the rolling South Downs, Amelia developed an early appreciation for the changing landscape and its ability to shape mood and memory. She went on to study at Falmouth College of Arts, where Cornwall's vast skies and dramatic coastline further strengthened her passion for landscape painting and laid the foundations for her distinctive artistic voice.

Rather than painting outdoors, Amelia allows each landscape to settle in her memory before returning to the studio. Working from photographs, sketches and personal recollection, she builds each composition through multiple layers of oil paint, pastel and graphite. This patient process enables her to move beyond faithful representation, capturing instead the atmosphere, light and emotional resonance of a place.

Inspired by artists including J.M.W. Turner and Len Tabner, Amelia's work balances expressive mark-making with an intuitive understanding of colour and light. Vast skies, shifting weather and expansive horizons become vehicles for exploring those fleeting moments that linger long after a journey has ended — the changing light across a hillside, the drama of an approaching storm, or the quiet stillness found in remote landscapes.

For almost two decades, Amelia has exhibited throughout the UK. Her work continues to evolve, becoming increasingly abstract while remaining rooted in a deep appreciation for Britain's wild and varied landscapes. Through each painting, she invites viewers to pause, reflect and reconnect with the restorative power of nature.
