Artwork Description:

Size:22 x 29 in.

Lee Ellis’s original painting I asked for a bacon bap (18" x 24") is a vibrant and joyfully chaotic exploration of colour and form. A striped blue vase anchors the composition, filled with an explosion of flowers rendered in vivid reds, pinks, blues and greens. The background is alive with bold yellow and orange strokes, heightening the intensity of the bouquet and giving the work a sense of urgency and raw energy. Ellis’s loose brushwork and the visible marks of the medium add a tactile quality, as though the flowers have been caught mid-bloom in a state of dynamic flux. The title injects his characteristic humour, contrasting the everyday mundanity of a bacon bap with the riotous vitality of the subject matter.

Ellis is a British multi-media artist based in Bristol, whose creative restlessness drives him to experiment across painting, drawing and printmaking. Known for his expressive, often angst-ridden portraits, he has in recent years turned his hand to still life, infusing the traditional subject with wit, irony and contemporary flair. His fearless use of colour and energetic handling of paint bring a modern, rebellious spirit to familiar themes. In this work, beauty collides with playfulness, exemplifying Ellis’s ability to blend tradition with originality in a uniquely compelling way.
